Benefits Compliance Specialist

Position Summary:
AlphaStaffHCM is seeking a Benefits Compliance Specialist to support the administration and compliance of master and client-sponsored health and welfare employee benefit programs. This role partners with the AlphaStaffHCM Benefits, HR, and Payroll teams, AlphaStaffHCM's affiliated insurance agency, Insight Business and Insurance Solutions, Inc., brokers, carriers, and TPAs to ensure benefit programs are administered accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a passion for benefits administration and compliance.
Annual Salary range: 75K-85K
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Benefits Administration & Compliance

Manage and maintain the Benefits Compliance Calendar and ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulatory deadlines.

Coordinate required employee benefit notices, disclosures, and communications.

Support administration of health, welfare, and voluntary benefit plans.

Partner with benefits vendors, brokers, carriers, TPAs, and internal stakeholders.

Assist with preparation and coordination of Form 5500 filings, audits, annual testing, and required reporting.

Monitor industry trends and federal, state, and local compliance requirements affecting employee health and welfare benefit programs.

Conduct periodic compliance reviews and identify process improvements.

Support annual open enrollment activities and employee education initiatives.

Manage documentation, record retention, and compliance files.

Respond to employee and client inquiries related to health and welfare benefit plan administration.

Develop reports, metrics, and compliance tracking tools.

Assist with vendor performance reviews and service delivery management.

Support internal audits and operational reviews.
Preferred Qualifications
-
CEBS (Certified Employee Benefit Specialist).
-
SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.

Experience with 401(k) governance and fiduciary processes.

Experience supporting Form 5500 reporting.

Familiarity with benefits administration platforms.

Experience within a PEO, insurance carrier, benefits brokerage, consulting organization, or outsourced HR environment.

Vendor Management: Builds and maintains productive relationships with benefits vendors and third-party administrators to ensure service quality, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Attention to Detail: Maintains a high level of accuracy when reviewing benefits data, documentation, communications, and regulatory requirements to minimize errors and ensure compliance.
Project Coordination: Effectively coordinates benefits-related projects, system implementations, and annual enrollment activities, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder expectations are met.
Communication: Communicates benefits information clearly and professionally to employees, vendors, and leadership, translating complex regulatory and plan details into understandable guidance.
Continuous Improvement: Proactively identifies opportunities to enhance benefits processes, controls, and employee experience through process optimization, compliance best practices, and innovative solutions.
Work Environment
This position is primarily office-based, with work performed on a computer in either a corporate office or a remote home office setting. The role may require using telephones, participating in virtual or in-person meetings, attending company events, and completing training sessions.
